Yami Gautam to train in MMA for her role in Uri

Bollywood actor Yami Gautam, who will soon play the lead in the upcoming film Uri, will soon start MMA training for her role in the movie, which also stars Vicky Kaushal in lead role.

The film is based on the Uri attacks that took place in September 2016. Militants attacked an army camp in Uri, killing 19 soldiers. Eleven days later, the Indian government announced it had conducted a ‘surgical strike’ across the border, killing an estimated 38 terrorists.

Talking about the film, Yami said in a press statement, “The prep work for Uri has just begun. In terms of the action training, we are shortlisting best options and MMA is a crucial part of the role and that’s why intense training for that will be what time would be invested in. The MMA is more to suit the body language which the script demands. Playing an intelligence officer on screen commands a certain degree of discipline and needs a body mannerism which is tough and MMA training will serve exactly that.” Uri will see Yami playing an intelligence officer alongside Vicky Kaushal.

Directed by Aditya Dhar, Uri is being produced by RSVP.

Talking about the film, Vicky had earlier said, “When this film came to me and we had this discussion. I was really thrilled and kicked about it because this is one story that I feel that everyone needs to know. One of the fantastic army operations that the Indian army has conducted and with great efficiency. I also feel it is a great opportunity and also a responsibility for all of us to portray this story.”

Yami Gautam will also be seen as a lawyer in Shahid Kapoor-Shraddha Kapoor-starrer Batti Gul Metre Chaalu.
